kindergarten_kids_002.jpgAbout Me
Welcome! Thank you for visiting my electronic portfolio! My name is Meredith Robins and I am originally from the Eastern Shore of Virginia. In 2008, I graduated from Longwood University in Farmville. While at Longwood I earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science. Although I still love history and government, after substitute teaching I realized that my passion was working with, educating, and interacting with young students. In May 2009, I graduated from The College of William and Mary with a Master's Degree in Elementary Education. Personally, I enjoy reading books for leisure, running on warm, sunny days, and baking cakes, cookies, and pies! I am SO eager to begin my teaching journey! In the picture I am happily posing with my kindergarten students on my last day of student teaching at D.J. Montague Elementary School.

Student Teaching
In Fall 2008, I began my practicum experience at D.J. Montague Elementary School in Williamsburg, Virginia. This elementary school is a K-5 environment that educates approximately 600 students. D.J. Montague is a school comprised of very diverse students. I began my practicum in an inclusion kindergarten classroom with Mrs. Robyn Moore, my wonderful cooperating teacher. During this time I also observed in every grade level at D.J. Montague. In addition, during my practicum experience I observed and taught language arts, mathematics, social studies, and science lessons in a variety of grade levels. I worked with special education as well as gifted students during this time. My student teaching experience began in Spring 2009 with Mrs. Kate Sikes, an amazing individual now in her 13th year of teaching. Again, I am working with kindergarten students and loving every minute of their academic, social, and emotional growth. This kindergarten classroom has been more of a challenge due to the greater number of behavioral problems. I welcome the experience and am learning and implementing effective classroom management techniques. Regarding collaboration with other teachers, I have the great privilege to work with a kindergarten team of five women who posess numerous years of teaching experience. As a team we co-plan our weekly activities, lesson plans, and field trips. Pictured to the right is Room 229 Kindergarten Team! (Mrs. Lisle, Ms. Robins, and Mrs. Sikes)
